I wanted to create an artwork from the most boring and mundane things I could think of.. so why not roads and traffic ? Its often struck me what a strange place the modern world is.. what would our ancestors make of it all ?

You often hear the term “motorway madness” in the media and it seems appropriate. People get all excited about cars.. and our fellow visual creatives (advertisers) love to sell lifestyle fantasies with cars.. so to counter this. I draw them as odd little metal boxes with a wheel on each corner. How can you have a lifestyle fantasy when you are stuck in a traffic jam in the pouring rain ?

Most cars (even the flash expensive ones) are still using internal combustion technology developed over a century ago.. it’s bit like putting propellers on a jumbo. I am just waiting for the time when we are all flying.. now that should be fun. Some people have big cars but only live in small houses.. and other times you see people have big houses but drive old bangers. My son has a mate who collects all the cooking oil from our local cafe’s.. and converts it into bio diesel in his garage.. so if you smell chinese food on the motorway he’s probably just driven past.

Being an environmentally friendly artist.. I decided I wanted to make the city a little “greener”.
My advice is get it printed big.. because 1) it looks rather excellent printed big.. and 2) I make more money.

During the research for this image I got caught on a speed camera and drove through a set of lights on red. I suspect it might be a short series."

I was recently approached by an old friend and musician Dave "Dogman" Sands. He was planning to produce a piece of music inspired by my urban artworks. Via the wonders of cyberspace Dave works in collaboration with Mikans who is based in Japan.

The whole concept came under the title of the White Church, and this image is my response.

Many thanks to Dave and his collaborators, its not every day somebody feels inspired to create music about my work.

An digital artwork about boats entering and leaving Heysham Harbour Morecambe Bay at the turn of the tide. There is always a fine balance between a man made and natural environment, the Bay has been inhabited for thousands of years and their are man made structures everywhere along the coats but still the place manages to feel like a place where nature dominates.

I love impressionism.. my favourite impressionist is Rory Bremner. I also enjoy randomly hurling abuse at famous artists..
