October 2020. With the news being relentlessly depressing and the nights getting longer, I thought I'd post a cheering summery picture, to remind us that better times will return. It's a view reconstructed from memory near Belthorn, Lancs. I was taken by the solitary tree in the middle of the newly cut field, that proudly stood in defiance of the logic of "maximising yields". The farmer had clearly made the decision to keep it. Sometimes the best decisions defy the rationale of the age.
"Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable."
It seems to me there are rather more people in need of comfort than comfortable at this time.
